Baby Z
This precious little guy was conceived on a mission trip. During the session I discovered that this family attends the same church I went to in High School and we know some of the same people. It’s a small world. Mom & Dad wanted to incorporate a scripture into one of their pictures, but they weren’t sure how. This is one of the options I gave them. (this is their first time seeing it too. This is a session sneak peek)
I photographed the passage during the session but when I put it into the scene all by itself, it felt out of place or unfinished to me. So, I gave it an aged or altered art look. It’s certainly not your typical portrait, but it was fun to create.
Is he not a cutie?
I love babies. I love my job!
Family
Yesterday I photographed my Brother-in-law’s family. My sister-in-law’s parents are visiting from Germany. I tried to photograph them all in studio about a year and half ago, but I just cannot accommodate that many people in The Family Room. Regardless, my SIL loved the photograph (due to the content) and it still hangs on the wall right inside of her front door. I’m a perfectionist and I begged for a do-over, but this time in the wide outdoors.

We went to Heritage Gardens in Shelby Township and waited for the sun to duck behind the trees for some nice soft light. With a group of this size and this many young ones it’s always a challenge to get everyone making eye-contact with the camera with an pleasant expression. I’m pleased with this capture.
Crazy Couch Contest
Do you have funky furniture? Send me a photo of your futon. If your sofa is sufficiently stylish, you’ll be entered into a contest for “The Family With The Most Swanky Sofa”. Entries will be accepted from now until June 31st. July 1st I’ll post all the sofa snapshots for a reader vote.

If your sofa gets the most votes, you’ll WIN a FREE “Environmental” Portrait SESSION. (Family of 5 or less) The only catch is that you have to let me photograph your family on your sofa in your yard!
So, dig up your digicam and capture that couch and then email it to jen @ familyroomstudio dot com. Please put “Crazy Couch Contest” in the subject line so your entry doesn’t get discarded as spam. Good luck and may the Most Chic Chesterfield win.
It feels like a new beginning!
I had made plans to change my business name to something shorter and sweeter, but the name I had selected has been trademarked. I decided (with the help of a trademark attorney) it wasnât worth attempting (even though Iâm in a different industry). Even so, I now have a new website and Iâve introduced some new collection pricing that I think is pretty fabulous. I hope youâll think so too!
