Surprise for Dad

This sweet family session was a special gift for their father. We met for their session at a playground on the water.

Sometimes when photographing two little ones, it’s a challenge to pose them together. This session was no exception. I photographed Grant when he was about 3 months old and I’ve shot him several times since. This time was his new baby sister’s turn in the spotlight and Grant was still unsure about this new little person in his home. I photographed Makayla by herself, and then Grant by himself and was able to put them together after the session.

I love it when families bring items to the session to include in their photographs. Makayla was an autumn baby, so mom had some pretty leaves and branches to set the mood. Mom also provided the pink and lavender blanket with the star pillow attached.

I’m always happy to incorporate personal touches into your portraits.

A girl, A boy and twins

Marina’s family brought a family heirloom baptismal gown.

Isn’t this little guy adorable? He was very pensive. He gave me a few really great smiles, but I liked the serious ones better.

You know me and baby wrinkles.

This pair stole my heart.

Twins are a lot of work to photograph. I can only imagine trying to parent them. My hat’s off to you, mom!

Mom requested a very specific scene for this pose of her son.

Don’t you just love wrinkly newborns?

These sisters were a couple of tigers, if you know what I mean.

Remember baby Jade? She grew up and I understand she has another sibling on the way. I can’t wait.

I love newborns

Two of my friends had babies this year. I was able to be present at the birth, but I will spare you the graphic images. I’m sure my friends would prefer to keep their bottoms off the internet anyhow.

Sophie’s dad is a drummer, so I had mom bring the bass drum along. They love this shot.

SEK46.jpg

She was so new, she still had a cord stump to prove it. It’s best to photograph a newborn in the first two weeks of life because they still have the curled-up fetal positioning and they sleep a lot. In the 3rd week, infants have their first growth spurt. They want to nurse constantly and they start to stretch out and stay awake. It’s much more difficult to get the newborn poses that everyone loves once they get past the 2 week mark. The earlier the better so schedule your appointment before your birth. We can tweak the date and time after baby arrives.

Lucas came along just a few weeks later. I get many requests for the black background, so I was grateful to do something different with both of my friends.

Lucas’ big brother is Aidan, the boy in the red chair on my splash page in in the banner at the top of the blog. He turns 5 next month, so I’m sure I’ll see him again soon. Sophie and Lucas are both near 6 months now. It’s time for those sitting-up shots before they start crawling!

Jessica was sooo darling. See for yourself.

She took a bath too. It’s a hit with the 1 year olds.

She was a little tired of us at the end, but I love this color combination.

I also had a nice family session designed with the grandparents in mind. Mom, Dad and baby A flew in.

I love how they were all interacting with A in this last one. When I showed it to mom, she cried.

Sophia & Christopher

Sophia came to see me last spring. She was a wiggle-bottom and didn’t want to stay on the set. We used a nice warm bath to relax her.

Chloe was unsure at the studio. The only place she wanted to be was on her tummy in daddy’s arms. But she warmed up and we got plenty of images.

I forgot to mention

My daughter just turned 4! Yes, just 4 - no wait, make that 5 days ago. There should be laws about how fast the little ones are allowed to grow. Natalie should be arrested! Seriously! In 2006-2007 Natalie got up to 26 pounds and just held there. She got bigger, but didn’t gain weight. It almost seemed like she wasn’t growing at all. Then in fall of 2007 she had g-tube surgery. In 2008 she made up for lost time and grew faster than the speed limit. ;) The surgery was the best thing we ever did for her.

Natalie has a huge aversion to the camera. I had to get dad to stand beside me and call her so that she’d look in my direction. She simply will not be still or make eye contact with the camera anymore. Everything is googly-eyes from her these days.

Happy Birthday baby! I love you. Now stop growing or you’ll be grounded until I’m 50.

More Bellies

I ran to the kitchen for a cup of decaf and I’m back for more blogging. BTW, the Colombian Roast Decaf from Kroger is good. My favorite coffee is Green Mountain Nantucket Blend. We have one of those Keurig one-cup brewers. If you love me, send K-cups of Nantucket Blend. Thanks! :)

Have a look at this hot momma. She was willing to try just about anything and she even granted me permission to post this steamy image on my blog. I wish I looked like this when I was pregnant, don’t you?

Catching Up

Yes, I am alive and shooting. I got behind on blogging early last year, and the further behind I got, the less I was motivated to catch up. Blogging just isn’t my shindig I guess. But, I have made a resolution to get back on the blogging wagon for 2009. I’m even going to catch up from last year if it takes me a handful of posts to do so. So, sit tight, here come some 2008 highlights from The Family Room.

My last post was from a Belly & Baby client who was having twins. Well, I now present Stephen & Harper.

Aren’t they beautiful? They just turned one so I hope to see them back real soon. They weren’t my only maternity clients. This couple was a little on the shyer side and went for a more traditional approach.
